Hi, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am an Instructor of Old Testament Interpretation at Southern Seminary and I am finishing my work as a Bible and Ancient Near East PhD candidate at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have previously studied at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, The Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, and the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

For my dissertation I am producing the first edition of a corpus of Sumerian economic tablets from the Ur III period that are in the collection of the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh. My supervisor for this project is Dr. Samuel Greengus.

You might ask how on earth this is relevant for modern daily life? Well, I have two answers: 1) I am studying ancient peoples who are made in the image of God and a study of this nature has incredibly rich intrinsic value and is by itself worthy of study, 2) I use a deep understanding of ancient languages and cultures to help my students understand more fully and deepen their appreciation for the Old Testament.

Far more important than any academic thing I could talk about, I am very blessed to be married to Lori Halton an amazing woman who is a constant source of joy and excitement and we have a beautiful daughter, Grey.

Hi Charles,
Very good website!

If in the future you would like to add something about Qumran and the Dead Sea scrolls, I might perhaps refer to my website and the two publications of scientific Qumran.
Next 21-25 April I have a workshop at the Lorentz Center about “Holistic Qumran”.
I am living 38 years in Jerusalem, but am now on a NIAS fellowship at Wassenaar, Holland.

Cordial greetings,

Jan
