I prepared a one-page guide that I pass out to my first semester biblical Hebrew classes entitled “How to Learn Hebrew.” A friend of mine suggested that I make it available on the blog, so here it is. If it is helpful to you feel free to use it or adapt it.

For the vocab learning (which you stress) perhaps the richer medium of http://cfdl.auckland.ac.nz/hebrew/ דָּבָר Biblical Hebrew Vocabularies might help students, it is not hard to generate the vocab lists you need for particular weeks of the course you are using…

You need to get a login (free and nearly instant) to select and download vocabularies for your class. Then you can put them on a web server or CD or memory stick… or download the “flashcard” format to print and fold so students can test thenselves after learning the words.

Great post. I liked your suggestion of understanding why a translation was rendered a particular way. Thinking about alternative translations is a good way to increase your textual skills/translations skills.
