Tyler Williams has a great, and fairly detailed, look at the various books that give an introduction to textual criticism of the Old Testament.  He rightly states that Tov’s work is the most authoritative (although it is not the one that is written in the most engaging style–it gets the information across, but not in the most elegant manner).  If you are interested in textual criticism, before you start buying books, check out Tyler’s post.
