I’ve added a new link to a site detailing the excavation of Tell Kurdu.  This is a site in northern Mesopotamia, or modern-day southern Turkey, that was occupied in the 6-5th millenium.  The page has some photos and a history of the research concerning the site.

Review of Cult Image and Divine Representation in the Ancient Near East

The above link is a pdf version of a short review of mine that appeared in Archiv Orientalni, vol. 74, 2006.  The book which I reviewed is a compilation of essays intended to provide an overview of the cult image within the major cultural/geographic areas of the ancient Near East.

One of the most prominent neolithic, Anatolian archaeological dig is at Catalhoyuk. The official site can be found here and they have links to 125 photos of the dig on flickr. The official illustrator’s site has some of his reconstructed images and drawings of various finds. This is a very important site that is well documented via these sites–the excavators have done a great job using technology to make their work accessible. There is even a guide to planning a trip with comic books that describe the site!
