The New York Times has an interesting piece about a machine that was discovered in a Greek shipwreck. The device consisted of gears and dials and was used to calculate astronomical movements. The machine is dated to around the second century BCE. Some are calling it the world’s first computer. This is one more piece in a long string of evidence that shows that ancient peoples were very intelligent and had a very sophisticated society. For the abstract of the official report that appeared in Nature, click here.
